Friends of the Capital Crescent Trail is an all-volunteer non-profit dedicated to saving the Trail as a world-class linear park. The most critical threat the Trail faces today is the estimated $2.4 BILLION Purple Line light rail project.
As currently planned, the Purple Line would bulldoze the three-mile section of the Georgetown Branch/Capital Crescent Trail from Bethesda to Silver Spring, clear-cut 20 acres of forest, and replace the trail with a shade-less, narrow strip of asphalt next to a double-track, noisy and unsafe rail line underneath high voltage electrical wires.
